About the test
What does the test analyse?
The lab extracts and sequences the bacterial DNA in your stool sample, covering over 70 bacterial genera. Your report shows your diversity, dysbiosis index, enterotype, Firmicutes to Bacteroidota ratio and four groups of key species.
Will it diagnose IBS or another condition?
No. It's a wellness test and can't diagnose or rule out IBS, coeliac disease or inflammatory bowel disease. See your GP about persistent symptoms.
Does it check for infections or blood in my stool?
No. MY GUUT™ looks at your gut bacteria only. If you're worried about blood in your poo or an infection, see your GP.
Do I need a GP referral?
No. You can order directly.
Where is my sample analysed?
MeCheck tests are analysed to ISO 15189 standards at established UK and European laboratories.
Your sample
When should I take my sample?
Wait at least a month after finishing antibiotics, and until you've fully recovered from any stomach bug.
When should I post it?
Monday to Thursday, so your sample doesn't sit in the post over a weekend. Return postage is free.
Is collecting a stool sample difficult?
No. The kit includes instructions and a stabilising tube, you only need a small amount, and it takes about 5 minutes.
Do I need to activate my kit?
Yes. Enter the code from your test pack on the MeCheck activation page before you post your sample, so your sample can be matched to you.
Your results
How long do results take?
Your report typically arrives within 10–14 days, as a password-protected document.
How are the diet suggestions personalised?
They're based on your own result. For example, the report suggests which fibres may feed the organisms you're low in, and how long changes tend to take.
Can I test again later?
Yes. Because your result is a snapshot, some people retest after a few months of changes to see how their gut has shifted.
What happens to my data?
Your data is encrypted and handled in line with UK GDPR. MeCheck never shares it with insurers, employers or other third parties.
